Necessary Blackness Podcast sat down with Aunt of Elijah Nichols, Kindra Nichols for an exclusive one on one interview. This is the first time the family has spoken out about the injustice faced by their loved one. Elijah Nichols promising career as a football star was derailed after he had to defend himself at a white frat party against 3 aggressors. The 18-year old was attending college and was a proud father to a newborn baby before being handed a 45 year sentence.
The sentencing of Elijah Nichols is a tragedy and reeks with racist implication from Judge Joey Showwalter, who sentenced Dustin Lee Moore, who attended the same school, to 2 months for killing a student during a hazing. However, Elijah will have to serve a 45 year suspended sentence for defending himself against 3 white students at a frat party. Mr. Showwalter seems to always use his discretion coupled with leniency when the defendant is White but, impose the maximum amount of sentence to Black defendants. When a freshman was busted on campus for selling marijuana, ecstasy and cocaine, Mr. Showwalter used the mercy of the court despite the defendant being found with $25,000 in cash and a 9mm gun which was found during a search of his on-campus apartment.
Judge Joey Showalter is known for holding fundraisers and speaking on behalf go local and state Republican candidate and is a staunch support of President Donald Trump. Many believe the sentencing of Elijah to 45 years is symbolic to Trump being the 45th President of the United States.
We are asking for everyone to sign the petition and to help in the family fundraising efforts to bring Elijah home.
Mainstream media interest have always been to capitalize off our story and plight, but never highlight the solution to pressing issues Black America face. So Community Activist & Gardner Marc Peeples aka Truth of Detroit reached out to Necessary Blackness to explain the fabricated charges levied against him, and why the judge admonished the three white woman that falsely accused him of stalking, harassment and being a pedophile.
“They get to ruin my life, say anything they want, and then they get to go on with their lives”, he states. In recent weeks we have witness of rash of white women calling 911 to report crimes that didn’t happen in order to get individuals arrested.
As a Black man who seen the need to change the blighted condition of his community, Truth wanted to make sure the East side of Detroit did not join the growing list of urban communities that are quickly becoming a food dessert.
Check out our exclusive one-on-one interview as we discuss not only gardening while Black, bit the decades of discrimination and land grab Black farmers are facing in America.
Houston Restaurant in Atlanta is in the news again, but this time it’s for engaging in racist treatment and physical assault after a police officer dragged three black actresses out of the restroom, through the restaurant and thrown outside in the bushes. Atlanta’s rapper and activist, T.I. has called for a boycott of the restaurant chain in response to the incident that landed the women in jail with one of them suffering injuries including a black eye. Brittany Marie Lucio, Asia’h SharrellEpperson(American Idol, Greenleaf) and Erica Walker say they were assaulted by an Atlanta police officer, Jay Guzman, who moonlights as a security guard at the restaurant. The ladies reportedly entered the restaurant after it was closed to use the bathroom. The officer admits he grabbed Lucio by the wrist and tried to “lead” her out the back door, but the video footage paints a much more violent picture of the ladies being man-handled and their attorney insists the officer threw them into the bushes.
A day doesn’t go by that Black folks are not vilified by media, disrespected by retailers and harassed by rouge police officers. The negative images are often times blamed on the victim and in Black folks case, rap music. But, being stereotyped is nothing new to melaninated people. So it does not come as a surprise, Red Cross, which is a disaster relief organization (how ironic) released a poster geared towards children safety while swimming, would use all the black cartoon characters as the bad, unruly and rowdy kids.
Red Cross was quick to respond to state the posters will be removed from all public places. But, what won’t be removed is the racist and white supremacist mind state of Red Cross employees.
By the way, we still waiting to see when Red Cross is going to account for the $500 million collected for Haiti, but only 6 homes were built.
