Necessary Blackness Podcast Ep. 31: Wilmington On Fire The Massacre of 1898

 

The Wilmington On Fire documentary, explores the Wilmington massacre of 1898, which was a bloody attack on the African-American community by a heavily armed white mob with the support of the North Carolina Democratic Party.

This event was the springboard for the White Supremacy Movement and Jim Crow Segregation throughout North Carolina and the American South.

The incident that took place on November 10, 1898 was never mentioned in the history books until 206, when the North Carolina General Assembly published a report on it.

It didn’t become widespread news until Director/Producer Christopher Everett decided to bring the atrocities of the Wilmington massacre to the big screen. Necessary Blackness Podcast sits down with the award winning filmmaker to discuss the importance of his eye raising documentary and what he has in store for the future.

Elementary Genocide 3: Academic Holocaust 1st Look Trailer

 

Elementary Genocide 3: Academic Holocaust is the latest installment in the award winning documentary series. We seek to explore how the “Murder In The Streets, Same As Intellectual Murder In The Classroom”. The documentary features notables such as Prof. James Small, Kaba Keme, David Banner, Shahrazad Ali, Michael Imhotep and many more.

 

 

 

The Elementary Genocide documentary series did exceptionally well and made it to Amazon’s top 10 list of documentaries for 4 consecutive weeks in the U.S. & U.K. We anticipate the last installment will exceed our expectations.

We have over 50 hours of footage. We almost done with a 65-minute rough draft. We still need to film a few selective scenes that will add emotional intensity. We also need to pay for archival footage, audio enhancement and color correction.

Post production, any filmmaker will tell you, is even more expensive than actual production. The funds we raise from this campaign will go directly to the basic enhancements we need so that we can screen in front of an audience & get the film out there for distribution.

Rahiem Shabazz Receives 2016 #BlackPowerAward for Documentary Filmmaking

Elementary Genocide 2: The Board of Education vs The Board of Incarceration received an award in the documentary category at the 2016 “Black Power Awards”. The Black Power Awards was held in Atlanta on Saturday, November 12th, 2016 to celebrate Black excellence, activism and our contribution to the world. The celebratory event showed and proved the strength and spirit of African people on a grand scale.

The Black Carpet Affair showcased the elegance and upscale attire of all those in attendance. Executive Producer, DJ set the tone when he stated, “When the Kente commands as much value as Gucci. then its a new day”. So, in customary fashion, we showed up and showed out.
